Your Entitlement to Health Services
Both employers and employees are required to make payable a PRSI
contribution. This contribution is
deducted from employee wages as a percentage of the employee's reckonable earnings. 2% of
the employees PRSI contribution goes into the Department of Health’s,
Health Fund and it entitles employees to some public health services. This
entitlement is income dependent.
Medical cards are
awarded to people whose weekly income is below a certain limit. The number of
dependants and the cost of housing (mortgage repayments/rents) are taken into
account.
